Hornstrandir

Hornstrandir nature reserve is found in the very north-west of Iceland and has been an unihabited area for 60 years.

The area is made up of inumerable fjords, bays and coves seperated by razor sharp steep mountains and tall vertical cliffs and due to this and its position the areas eco-system swings regulary between extremes of weather. It is a challenging but rewarding and unique environment in which to work, with very steep almost vertical hikes to be made to the observation stations in often windy (25+ m/sec) wet, foggy and cold conditions, on the way up, then sunny, calm and warm on the way down, or vise versa, and to this end our volunteers should have good exðerience in outdoor life and recreation ad a fitness level to match.
